Measurements- WTF?

Measurements are in, and I'm a little. . . . curious. It seems that while my waist got smaller by a half inch, my hips stayed the same and my bust actually went up a half inch.

Yeah I'm pretty sure my boobs haven't grown any since I started working out. I even think they might have shrunk a bit, since my bras are a bit looser now.

Oh well. I'm updating my current stats anyways. Next measurements will be taken at the end of May. If my boobs have gone up again, THEN I'll worry.

(Oh, and I also added a thigh measurement because my pants have been getting quite a bit looser there and I want to track it.)

Weigh In (Keeping On Track)

I'm down two more pounds! Yaaaaaaaaaay!

Seriously though, this is the pace I want to be at, if all the experts are to be believed. And I have lots of energy, feeling stronger, faster, my clothes are getting looser (Or at least I think they are, measurements this weekend will decide that for sure).

Bob won the week with an impressive loss of 5 lbs, and Crystle lost the 3 she'd gained last week. So far we all seem to be more or less on the right track.

Defeating the Stairs (Or- How did I end up here?)

Today is Administrative Professionals' Day. As such, I and the other office assistants and office techs in our building are being treated to a nice lunch.

Which means no gym during my lunch break. So, of course, I want to get in good workouts on my two fifteen minute breaks to try to make up for the lack of gym time. (I'm also gonna try to go with Bob to the gym tonight, but we'll see how everything goes.)

My usual go-to for a good 15 min. workout is walking up the 7 story parking garage that makes up the lower third of our building. At a fairly brisk pace I can get to the top and back down in fifteen minutes. Today I decided to try power walking (You know, with my arms bent at the elbows, hands lightly fisted) , and though I didn't time myself, I'm sure I knocked at least a few minutes off my normal time. I also jogged little bits of the downward journey, just to get my heartrate up.

I don't know how long it took me, but I'm sure it was less than normal. So as I got onto the elevator to go back upstairs to my desk, I decided to stop on the first floor above the parking garage, which was the 8th floor. I work on the 12th.

As I marched up the four floors of stairs, I thought about the moment I decided I needed to lose weight. It was a few months ago. I was working with everyone else on the 12th when there was a fire drill. As per our policy, we headed to the stairs and went down four floors to the eighth, to be counted and patted on the back for our obesiance. After the drill was ended, I had the bright idea to walk back up the eight flights of stairs with everyone else. How hard could it be?

By the time I'd hauled myself up to the 12th, my legs were threatening to give out beneath me. My heart was pounding like a loud and angry drum inside my chest, and for a while I felt dizzy and light headed. The hard breathing and pounding heart persisted for a half hour after I'd slumped into my desk chair. At that moment, I realized how out of shape I really was.

So fast forward to my current trek up the evil stairs. I reach the top with only a short pause before the last flight. Was my heart pounding hard? Absolutely. But my legs, though burning, don't feel weak at all, and my heart calmed minutes into sitting down (After grabbing my precious water bottle from the mini fridge in the breakroom. I took a swig of icy goodness, and smiled at my triumph. Next challenge; I plan to go all the way from the 8th floor to the floor where the stairs stop (I think it's the 27th). Not anytime soon, but it's gonna happen. :)

Easter!

Today we celebrated Easter in our own laid-back way. First we dyed some eggs-

The so-called egg "marbling" kit we got wasn't all that amazing, but we still got a pretty range of colors! Bob's busy making all these beautiful eggs into even more beautiful (And tasty) low-cal(ish) devilled eggs!!

I also made some lemon cooler cookies-

Which are pretty messy to eat, but sooo tart and tasty!

All in all a tasty Easter spread, no?

I won the Weigh In!

I won the golden hand weight!

(This picture took fifteen minutes to get. Apparently the first six shots my boyfriend took were of my boobs.)

I lost another 3 lbs. this week, for a total loss of 6.5 lbs. since April 1st. Yayyyyy me!

Ankle Shmankle

My right ankle's been bothering me for the past few days. I'm not sure what caused it, but it's a bit swollen and there's a pinched pain when I step on it sometimes. I took some ibeprofen the other day, but then made the mistake of working out hard on the crossfit at lunch yesterday. For 40 minutes straight.

I'm changing out of my shape ups into a new athletic shoe I bought today, to see if the heavy shape ups were part of the problem. Hopefully my ankle will feel better today.

Jury Duty

Had jury duty today. Spent all friggin' day sitting in a waiting room, hoping I wouldn't be called for a trial. And because I forgot till the last second that I even HAD jury duty, I had no time to make my lunch. I grabbed a yogurt and a string cheese on the way out. Unfortunately I was still hungry, so when they released us for our first break, I went to the cafeteria and had a sausage-egg-cheese croissant. It was very good, but too heavy and made me lethargic the rest of the morning.

We had a two hour lunch break, so I walked the five blocks to Subway, where I made the mistake of getting a footlong turkey sub with bacon, rather than a six inch. I ate half and then walked another three blocks to the Downtown mall. I went to Payless shoes and got some cute sandals for work, and then walked back two blocks to the downtown RiteAid for a Sudoku book (And some cute sparkly blue nail polish!!) Then I walked back to my car in the parking lot near the courthouse and waited out the remaining 40 minutes. All in all I think I got some good exercise, though I wish I'd gotten more.

Got to leave at 3pm, so Bob and I went to the gym early. I did 25 min. on the crossfit. I think I would've done more if I hadn't eaten so much heavy food earlier, but at least I did my time. Got some new running shoes for the treadmill.

We had frozen thin crust pizza for dinner. It put me over my daily points by a bit, but I'm okay with it. While we were at the store getting the pizza, I found navel oranges for 27 cents a pound! Score! We got a big bag, and I might go back for more later, looooove oranges!

Getting Out

I was all prepared to go to another lunch hour at the gym, when my co-worker invited me to walk around the state capitol with her instead. Sounds good to me!

We took a brisk walk all around the capitol building and the beautiful park that surrounds it. We gave a Tea Party gathering a wide berth and watched squirrels sprint across the grass. The sky was a splotched blue and gray, with occasional light rain and a cool breeze. We chatted the whole time (Though speech was a bit labored; we were keeping a nice fast pace). All in all, we walked  just about a mile, and time passed much more pleasantly and faster than if we'd exercised alone.

My legs are aching a bit from the walk. I'm not sure if we were really walking that much faster or what the issue could be. Perhaps that I'm not good at remembering to stretch. I need to start stretching.

Daily Log- 4/17/11

Breakfast- 2 homemade "egg McMuffin" sandwiches (Egg, English muffin, thinly sliced ham, half a slice of fat free Kraft single)- I'm never having more than one at a time again, one was enough to fill me up.

Lunch- nothing (Late start again, I need to work on this)

Dinner- I made a lighter version of a Pizza Hut-style pizza inspired by this recipe by Devin Alexander-
http://health.discovery.com/fansites/devin-alexander/recipes/hand-tossed.html

Bob and I each made our own personal pizzas, with onions, peppers, turkey pepperoni, turkey italian sausage, pineapple and part-skim mozzerella cheese. They came out so delicious! I'm not sure if the flavors were very similar to Pizza Hut's, but it was great, and we'll be having it again, definitely!

Wii Fit

Got up this morning determined to start working off the -extra- wine cooler I had last night (Yep, I drank the last one right before bed, argh!)

Last night Bob installed my Wii Fit to work of my computer monitor (We don't have a television), so I got up, put on my workout gear (Ha I first accidentally typed "Workpout" gear, freudian slip perhaps?) and did 42 minutes of (mostly) aerobic stuff.

It was a combination of a simulated bike ride, hula hooping, skateboarding, kung fu (I'm hoping there's a faster advanced version of this, because it was fun but way too slow) and flapping my arms like some crazy plucked chicken to stay in flight.

I sweated fairly good, though I think I'll skip the skateboarding next time, not enough vigorous movement.

I'm thinking of trying to do at least a 1/2 hour of this in the morning before work, just to start off the day on a good note.

Family Dinner Night

Tonight was the first night we've had my parents over for dinner here at our new apartment. Bob made philly cheesesteaks full of onions and bell peppers. I had mine with fat-free kraft singles, and my parents had theirs with nacho cheese. They were delicious!! I also had a small amount of Lays Carolina BBQ chips, and each of us had a strawberry daiquiri winecooler.

For dessert I made a banana cream pie from Gina's Skinny Recipes blog. You can find the recipe here:
http://www.skinnytaste.com/2009/10/banana-cream-pie.html

I used this amazing fat-free sour cream we have here, and the pie was soooo yummy! Everyone loved it.

Exercise wise, not much today. I realized I haven't taken a break from exercising in a week, so I figured one rest day was in order.

Though I think I may have burned a good amount of calories cleaning up the living room and kitchen in preparation for my parents' arrival. Phew!

Breakfast- Sandwich with 2 slices lean ham and 1 tbsp mayonnaise (Late start this morning to go shoe shopping)

Lunch- None (As per late start)

Snacks- 3 pieces Easter candy (I gave the cup to Bob for safe-keeping. I can't keep it in front of me or I'll eat it)

Weigh In

So the weigh in last night went really well!

Crystle was the winner for the week, with a loss of 7 lbs! Yay, Crystle!!!

Bob got second place with a loss of 7 lbs. Yay!! So far he's lost ten pounds since April 1st, I'm so proud of him!

I came in third place with a loss of 2.5 lbs. Which is good. But not as good as I'd hoped it would've been.

This weigh in is making me want to rethink my strategy. So far Bob and Crystle have been doing almost no weight training, focusing solely on cardio. Meanwhile, I've been doing a lot of weight training, maybe half, and the rest is cardio. I'm wondering if I should change my tactic and just do cardio until I've lost a lot of weight.

What do you think?

The Goal.

So I decided to set a goal for my weightloss, see if that helps light a fire under my ass.

My goal? To lose 88 lbs. by my 26th birthday, January 18th, 2012.

It's reasonable; it averages out to 2 lbs. of weightloss a week, which is the supposed healthy amount. I'm hoping that the first couple weeks where I tear shit up and lose like a crazy person will help make up for the times in the future where I break down and eat a pizza or a whole carton of ice cream.

Not that any of that is going to happen. Portion control is definitely something I'm working hard on.

My boyfriend Bob and my best friend Crystle are in this weight-loss thing with me. We've even started a contest. Whoever loses the largest percentage of weight each week is the winner, and gets to claim the "trophy"; a cheap little handweight spray-painted gold. I want it sooooo bad.

So here's the starting stats for this goal, and for this blog.

Starting weight: 314.75 lbs. (Ouch!!!)
Current weight: 314 lbs. (-.75 lbs)
Goal Weight: 226.75 lbs.
Lbs. to lose: 88 lbs. (8 is my favorite number, so maybe this is a good omen?)
Next weigh-in: Friday, April 15th

Yep, the next weigh-in is tonight. I actually started actively trying to lose weight on April 1st, so I'm adding in the measly .75 lb. weight loss that I clocked in the first week. It wasn't a good weigh in; The day we started, we weighed ourselves at 3 pm, on my day off, before dinner and having had nothing to eat for several hours. The first week's weigh in, we weighed ourselves 2 hours after a healthy but hefty dinner of beef stir-fry. Not a great start. We've decided to make Fridays salad dinner days, to compensate.

I'll post again tonight after the weigh in.
